When dealing with self, we must never become proud and puffed up.
Our motive should never be from a prideful, religious spirit. It should be from our relationship with Jesus Christ The Restorer of all things Holy and Righteous.
In order to love with no agenda.
We must understand. Sin and Self!
Notice in Genesis 1, God makes everything after it's kind, Every seed will produce after it's kind and then God spoke and said , let Us make man in Our image and God blessed them male and female and said be fruitful and multiply, and replenish the earth and subdue it and have dominion over every living thing that moves upon earth.
Every seed, bird, beast, anything that has life, He gave to us.
In Genesis 2:17, NKJV, The Word of God says, but of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil you shall not eat, for in that day that you eat of it you shall surely die.
We also see this in Genesis 3:3.
Now, did Adam and Eve actually die? NO!
So, then, what died?
It was our image, value, identity, purpose, and perfect relationship with God.
The Fruit of The Spirit ceased and the fruit of the flesh flooded into humanity.
Self-less-ness became Self-ish-ness.
Genesis 3:4-5, NJKV, says, 4 Then the serpent said to the woman, “You will not surely die.
5 For God knows that in the day you eat of it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil.”
The devil fell for wanting to be like God and he tempted us in the same way he fell and we fell for it. Simply put, we were tempted by the same pride that caused his fall.
We were already like God.
We were already created in the image of God.
Yet, we still fell.
And, as a result, we took on the image of the enemy and became children of the devil.
The results of our Self-ishness followed.
In Genesis 3:9-10, We see because of Sin and Self, we hide from God.
Isn't this what children do when they do something wrong.
In Genesis 3:12-13, We now blame others and take no responsibility.
Adam blamed God. Eve blamed the devil.
Blame shifting and Self-ishness at it's best.
In Genesis 4:5, Feelings getting hurt and we became Self-focused.
In Genesis 4:6, Anger rises up.
In Genesis 4:8, Murder becomes the result of the seeds of anger.
In Genesis 4:9, Lying takes place as a result of Sins and Self and ultimately jealousy. And,
In Genesis 4:16, We see it leads to Separation from the presence of God .
The point is from the beginning,
We became Self - Focused, Self - Preserving, Self - Centered,
Self - Conscious, Self - Defending, Self - Sufficient, Self - ish, Self - ish, Self - ish.
This is why we are called to be Self-Less.
We must accept Mercy, accept Righteousness, accept Forgiveness,
Accept Christ and Salvation,
and
Know that He wants to live in us.
We must say Yes and share with others,
So they have an opportunity to say yes to Christ,
Salvation, Mercy, Grace, Forgiveness, Righteousness, Freedom,
and
The Love of God.
But, we have to become before we are empowered to do and then we will want to reach out because it's who we are and who we've become.
If we wrote down even one reason why we don't share The Good News or why we don't share as often as we would like to. Almost every reason undoubtedly, would be a Self or Self-ish reason and not a Self-Less reason.
This is one of the reasons why Jesus says deny your-self, pick up your cross,
and
Follow Me.
Before we continue, let's look at Philippians 3:12-16, NLT when Paul spoke these words.
12 I don’t mean to say that I have already achieved these things or that I have already reached perfection.
But I press on to possess that perfection for which Christ Jesus first possessed me.
13 No, dear brothers and sisters, I have not achieved it, but I focus on this one thing:
Forgetting the past and looking forward to what lies ahead,
14 I press on to reach the end of the race and receive the heavenly prize for which God, through Christ Jesus, is calling us.
15 Let all who are spiritually mature agree on these things. If you disagree on some point, I believe God will make it plain to you.
16 But we must hold on to the progress we have already made.
So as we sum up this section and move forward.
Do your best to keep an open mind and set Your-Self aside.
Self is and will be always be
One of the greatest opposing forces
That keeps a Christian from sharing The Good News
Or
From sharing The Good News
As often as they would like
And
Ultimately living a life of freedom in Christ.
Now, before we
jump into the freezing cold water at the deep end,
Let's wade into the shallow water first and remember,
Jesus didn't say deny the devil, pick up your cross and follow Me.
And
He also didn't say wear a cross and follow me.
It might just be
That it is us who has become
Are our own worst enemy.
Let's
keep this in mind as we follow Jesus and move forward..
